With the arrival of 2025, it’s time to celebrate the upcoming accomplishments of our community and what makes it special! Since 1823, our city and Monroe County itself has truly flourished and grown into a community full of rich stories waiting to be shared. In honor of all that’s to come in this new year, let the Forsyth celebrations begin!
Forsyth Convention & Visitors Bureau Turns 10

That’s right, Forsyth Convention & Visitors Bureau will reach a milestone of 10 years in operation this year! Here’s to many more years of promoting the city of Forsyth, supporting the community and drawing new visitors to our city. Tourism is good for Forsyth and Monroe County!
Monroe County Fine Arts Center Turns 10

After breaking ground in March 2015, the Monroe County Fine Arts Center will officially turn 10 this year! This exceptional center supports students in our community to pursue their passion for the fine arts. They also host professional entertainment and several musical performances for the public. The Backlot Players Turns 30

The Backlot Players is a community theater group housed in the historic Rose Theater. Late last summer, there was a terrible fire on the Courthouse Square and the store next to the Rose Theater burned. It was a complete loss. The Rose suffered fire and significant smoke and water damage – learn more in our blog, The Resilience of the Rose. They had to cancel the remainder of their performance season to focus on restorations and recovery. There is much more to tell as the curtain rises on the Backlot Players’ 30th season!
Hubbard Alumni Association Turns 40

This local non-profit organization continues the legacy of William Hubbard and will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year! The Hubbard Alumni Association works to preserve Hubbard’s legacy in education by providing scholarships for students. They also look after the National Historic Hubbard Dormitory. Check out our Hubbard legacy blog to learn more about how William Hubbard started the first school for African American students in a little church room and how it grew to become a state teachers’ college.
Monroe County Historical Society Turns 50

The largest milestone that our community will see this year is the Monroe County Historical Society’s golden jubilee! The society was established in 1975 and maintains three buildings on the National Register of Historic Places that are related to Forsyth’s railroad history. You can explore their museum’s exhibits and Monroe County archives. This will give you a comprehensive look at the history of our community and the surrounding cities.
As we celebrate the achievements of organizations in our community coming up this year, it’s important to recognize the success of our community as a whole. Cheers to 2025 and a new year of prosperity for the city of Forsyth!
