It is time for our annual Forsythia Festival held March 9-10, 2024, in downtown Forsyth! This free, family-fun event features a two-day arts-and-crafts show and music with plenty of activities leading up to the festival to get you in the spirit—a 5K, car show, food trucks and much more. (In particular, not to miss is the Block Party on the eve of the festival—Friday, March 8th from 7-10 p.m.—featuring live music from The Assembly and Caleb Dunn & Friends.) All weekend long revelers will enjoy mouth-watering foods, fine arts and crafts, and activities the whole family can enjoy! More information can be found at forsythiafestival.com.
Please note: This blog was originally written and published March 8, 2023 and has been updated to reflect current offerings as of March 5, 2024.
While you find yourself in Forsyth’s charming historic district, complete with a bustling town square framing the manicured lawns and majestic architecture of the Monroe County Courthouse, stay awhile and discover some hidden gems. The historic downtown is a great spot to grab a bite to eat and while away a few hours with the family.
You will find plenty of unique local dining options that will suit your fancy. From classic comforts to artisanal cuisine, a list of good eats can be found on our dining webpage.
The square is the perfect place to stroll, with plenty of places to pop in and take a look. Step back in time to experience the old-fashioned shopping pleasure of Forsyth Feed & Seed and Georgia Hardware or browse the eclectic delights of boutiques like the fashionable stylings of CoTique Boutique, Burty’s Boutique‘s charm bar, monogramming from Hometown Boutique Forsyth, and Branded Starr Western Boutique‘s hat bar. A Girl & A Goat offers homemade soaps and more that make perfect gifts to take home to your loved ones (and they smell heavenly, so it’s worth a stop just for that!). Art lovers enjoy taking in the creative expressions at the 1823 Artisan Gallery, GoodJuJu Pottery and Charlie Rose Craft Studio, while the child in all of us will delight in legos galore at the Brick Brigade. Located just a couple blocks from the square is the town’s very own brewery, Fox City Brewing, next to Queen Bee Coffee Company and Jonah’s Pizza. There are so many unique local places to explore, so pop in Scoops (next to the Welcome Center) for an ice cream cone and pick a direction to start your way around the square!
P.S. Two unique shopping experiences outside of downtown are Forsyth Antiques & More and Swint’s Candy Co.!
As you’re getting your steps in, you might find it interesting to know you’re walking in the footsteps of more than 200 years of Forsyth residents. Be sure to stop and ponder the historic plaques sharing local stories, from the c.1895 historic courthouse to monuments like the Monroe County-Forsyth War Memorial and the Confederate Soldier Monument. There’s the story of “Where Uncle Remus Comes of Age,” the historic Rose Theater, and two 1800s train depots (yes, two!), all within easy walking distance of the courthouse. If you have little ones with you, pick up a copy of the Forsyth Fox Hunt clue sheet at the Welcome Center, and they can enjoy a fun scavenger hunt for our cute bronze foxes hiding around downtown, giving you a chance to take in the sites as you follow along! Other self-guided walking tours that offer insider information on additional spots are also available at the Welcome Center at 20 N. Jackson Street.
However you choose to spend your time while here, we look forward to seeing you this weekend at Forsythia!!
