Forsyth may be a small town, but our film history runs deep. Film fans and movie buffs will love scouting out the locations of some of America’s favorite movies and TV shows. Since filming often occurs in and around town, you may just catch a glimpse of the action while you’re here!

Fried Green Tomatoes

The iconic southern movie Fried Green Tomatoes was filmed in nearby Juliette, Georgia. Visit Juliette today and you’ll find delicious food (and yes, fried green tomatoes) at the Whistle Stop Café, two grave markers for Buddy Threadgood and Ruth Jamison, and a morbid reminder by the barbeque pit: “The secret’s in the sauce.”

In 2006, camera crews returned to Juliette to film the documentary Fried Green Tomorrows: Juliette, GA Lives, starring Danny Vinson and directed by Neill Calabro.

First Man (2018)

Oscar winning Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling, team up for this Universal Picture. This riveting story is about the first manned mission to the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the decade leading to the historic Apollo 11 flight. First Man was filmed in several locations including the Plant Scherer Power-Plant in Juliette, Ga.

Baby Driver (2017)

A police chase scene from the movie Baby Driver was filmed on the bridge on Round Oak Juliette Road. The movie, starring Jamie Foxx, is about a getaway driver taking part in a doomed heist.

7 Little Johnstons (TV Series 2015 - Present)

The Johnston family stars in TLC’s television series 7 Little Johnstons. The show centers on the family’s everyday life and the ways they live with achondroplasia dwarfism.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013)​

Ron Burgundy and the gang filmed in locations across Georgia for Anchorman 2: 
The Legend Continues. Remember that underwater scene? It was filmed in Forsyth’s Georgia Public Safety Training Center.

Jayne Mansfield’s Car (2012)

Jayne Mansfield’s Car, directed by Billy Bob Thornton, stars Thornton, Kevin Bacon, Dennis Quaid, and Robert Duvall. Filming took place around High Falls State Park in 2011. The movie is about two families coming together after the death of an estranged wife.

Dumb and Dumber To (2014)​

This American buddy comedy film was co-written and directed by the Farrelly brothers. It is a sequel to the 1994 film  Dumb and Dumber. The film stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprising their roles 20 years after the events of the first film. The film tells the story of two dimwitted adults who set out on a cross-country road trip.

A Killing Affair
(1986)

Six years before Fried Green Tomatoes, the movie A Killing Affair was filmed in Juliette. It stars Peter Weller and Kathy Baker, and it tells the story of a woman in West Virginia who takes in a drifter she believes killed her husband.

Splendor in the Grass (1981)

In this American TV movie directed by Richard C Sarafin, two teenagers, in love in pre-Depression Kansas, cope with parental pressure and the strict sexual mores of the day. The movie is a remake of the 1961 film, written by William Inge and starring Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty.

King (TV Mini Series 1978)

The story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., stretching from his days as a Southern Baptist minister up to his assassination in Memphis in 1968. Starring Paul Winfield as Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.  This mini series was filmed on the courthouse square. 

Return To Macon County (1974)

Return to Macon County, the sequel to Macon County Line, was filmed in several locations in Monroe County. Starring Nick Nolte and Don Johnson, the movie follows two teenagers who take their Chevy across the country to enter it in the National Championship drag races in California.
